With sustainability and conservation at its core, F ZEEN RETREATS has enacted several initiatives to maintain the preservation of nature and the surrounding landscape.
We protect and honour nature by enveloping F ZEEN KEFALONIA with botanical gardens.
The F ZEEN eco-system within its 15 acres of fertile land consists of 8,000 species of trees, herbs, flowers and plants. A botanical garden on its own, inextricably linked to the unique micro-climate of the island.
Our Nature‑Based Adaptation Initiative places the resilience of our landscapes and property design at the heart of FZEEN’s environmental strategy. We prioritize native and drought‑tolerant planting across our properties to support biodiversity and reduce water demand, while thoughtfully designed shade structures and natural cooling features help create more comfortable outdoor environments for guests and staff. In parallel, we invest in comprehensive wildfire preparedness measures and ongoing coastal and hillside erosion monitoring to safeguard both our sites and surrounding ecosystems. Through these nature‑aligned solutions, we aim to strengthen environmental health, enhance climate resilience, and ensure our destinations thrive for generations to come.
The FZEEN Blue Initiative is our commitment to protecting and restoring the precious marine ecosystems that surround our retreats. Through this program, we lead quarterly beach and seabed cleanups across our destinations, engaging guests, staff, and local partners in meaningful action. By caring for our coastlines and underwater habitats, we aim to preserve the natural beauty of our islands and contribute to a healthier, more resilient marine environment for generations to come.
Our Waste Diversion Initiative is designed to significantly reduce the volume of waste sent to landfill by transforming how we manage resources across our retreats. We implement strict source‑separation systems to ensure recyclables, organics, and residual waste are handled responsibly from the start. Organic material is diverted into composting programs that support our landscapes and reduce emissions, while surplus food is channeled to local communities through dedicated food‑rescue partnerships. By rethinking waste as a resource and engaging both our teams and guests in daily responsible practices, we are building a more circular, lower‑impact operation that supports cleaner destinations and stronger community resilience.
Our Zero Single‑Use Plastics Initiative reflects FZEEN’s commitment to reducing unnecessary waste and protecting the natural environments we call home. Across all properties, we are phasing out disposable plastics by introducing refillable bathroom amenities, reusable water solutions, eco‑friendly packaging, and strict sustainability standards for our suppliers. By reducing plastic at the source and empowering both guests and teams to make responsible choices, we aim to significantly lower our environmental footprint and contribute to cleaner coastlines, healthier ecosystems, and more sustainable island communities.
